CrossTraining is a cooperative program that works in partnership with Bible colleges, mission agencies, and evangelical churches. It is an 8 month program intended to equip Christians for ministry in a cross-cultural context. As part of an intercultural studies program, it can be taken for credit through our partner colleges. It can also be taken as a one-year course for a CrossTraining certificate, or the courses can be taken individually to meet requirements for mission agencies or can simply be audited for ministry enhancement.
During the fall semester students participate in 4 modular missions courses (usually daily for one-week) taught by presenters from our various partner mission agencies. The Peoples Church Toronto will be the host for our programs. After each course students have approximately 2 weeks to work through their course assignments and papers. During the weeks when there is no modular course in progress, students meet together on Mondays for a Spiritual Formation course. This includes time for sharing, prayer, practicum and course debrief, and the presentation of a Spiritual Formation lesson.
Also during the fall semester, students complete the Perspectives on the World Christian Movement course, as well as a practicum in one of our ethnic-specific evangelical partner churches in the city. It is an intensive semester and requires both discipline and self-motivation.
During the second semester (January – April) students do a cross-cultural internship, usually overseas. During the international internship they serve under a partner mission agency, being mentored by a supervisor on the field. Also during this internship, the students complete ethnography, and have the option of formal language study.
CrossTraining first launched in the fall of 2004 and has run for eight consecutive years in the city of Calgary with over 50 alumni. We are delighted to announce the launch of CrossTraining Toronto for the fall of 2012.
